🌿 Meet Mullein – the perfect blend of presenc 🌿 Meet Mullein – the perfect blend of presence and practicality
With its towering stalks and soft, velvety leaves, Mullein is a beloved lung ally, used traditionally to ease coughs, clear congestion, and support respiratory health.

Easy to grow, drought-tolerant, and beautiful in bloom, Mullein can be trusted to help you with:

🫁 Lung Medicine
Traditionally used for dry, irritated coughs, Mullein soothes inflamed respiratory tissues, eases spasms, and supports expectoration. It’s a classic ally for smokers’ lungs, bronchitis, and long recovery from respiratory illness. Think of it as a balm for tired lungs.

🦴 Spinal & Joint Support
Mullein root and leaf are often used for musculoskeletal alignment, with a special affinity for the spine and hips. It’s said to support the body’s natural structure, helping lubricate joints and ease stiffness, especially in “dry” constitutions.

💧 Lymphatic & Urinary Health
This plant helps move stagnation, whether it’s swollen glands or sluggish lymph. The root is also known to tone the bladder, making it helpful in cases of incontinence or urinary irritation.

🎧 Ear Care
Mullein flower oil (often paired with garlic) is a go-to for earaches, especially when they’re nerve-based. It can help soften wax, reduce inflammation, and bring gentle relief.

🌼 Safety tips
Cooling, moistening, and gentle. Mullein is widely considered safe, but its fuzzy leaf hairs can be irritating, always strain teas well, and wear gloves when handling large amounts of the leaf.

✨ Mullein reminds us that softness can be strong, and that sometimes healing starts with a deep, supported breath.

Known for its potent calming properties, Valerian root has been used for centuries to ease tension, quiet the mind, and support restful sleep. This strong medicine helped me in a recent consultation with a patient that struggled with racing thoughts at night. Through a blended approach, bettering her diet, as well as adding teas and tinctures to her routine dreadtime smoothly transitioned into bedtime.

🌿 Meet Mugwort – the dreamy herb of intuition 🌿 Meet Mugwort – the dreamy herb of intuition and deep restoration.
Amongst it's many benefits, you can trust this herb to help with:

🧠 Nervous System Support
Used as a nervine relaxant, Mugwort calms stress, anxiety, and “stagnant depression” (the kind that simmers with frustration). Its bitter, aromatic profile soothes the nervous system while gently stimulating the digestive and circulatory systems.

🌙 Dreamwork & Intuition
A known oneirogen, Mugwort has long been used to enhance dreams, support REM sleep, and connect dream life with waking awareness. Burned as incense, taken as tea, or used in a tincture—this herb invites clarity and insight.

🌺 Reproductive Ally
Mugwort shines as an emmenagogue, supporting crampy, clotty, or delayed menstruation. It warms the womb, supports hormonal balance, and may assist in conditions like PCOS where liver stagnation and androgen excess are at play.

🔥 Digestive & Liver Support
As a bitter tonic, Mugwort stimulates the liver, gallbladder, and stomach, supporting detox, digestion, and nutrient absorption, especially helpful for those with cold constitutions or stress-related GI issues.

✨ Energetical Duality: Mugwort is paradoxically both cooling and warming, cleansing and circulating, grounding and elevating. It grows wild and strong, offering medicine to body, mind, and spirit.

📖 Traditional preparations include teas (hot or cold infusions), tinctures, smudging bundles, and flower essences—each unlocking different aspects of this powerful plant.

The @canadian_herb_conference starts today! This i The @canadian_herb_conference starts today! This is one of my favorite times of the year; learning from so many amazing teachers and interacting with other plant enthusiasts all weekend is very enriching.

If you haven't purchased a ticket yet, you can do so until Saturday at noon. There are options to have access for a week or year, so there is lots of time to watch all the workshops. To receive a $25 off discount, use code HANB24.

Oh, I guess I should also mention that I will be presenting a short lecture called Embracing the Lion's Heart: Motherwort Profile and providing an update on what the Herbalist Association of New Brunswick has been up to over the last year. 💚
The Ashwagandha is nearing the end of its days, so The Ashwagandha is nearing the end of its days, soon I will be harvesting the roots and saving the seeds, a little later in the season than usual.

Ashwagandha grows in NB as an annual, and typically doesn’t make it past the first frost. It’s native to India, Middle East, etc. where it grows as an evergreen shrub.

I have always grown Ashwagandha outside, never in a greenhouse, and have been saving the seeds for the last 9-10 years. I like to think they have adapted to the climate here over the years…maybe wishful thinking!!??!!
